Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Key Card Travel ("we", "us", "our") publishes hotel, cabin and lounge reviews at keycardtravel.com (the "Site"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit the Site, ask for the room database or write to us, how we use it, and the choices you have.
It is written to meet the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) and to honor the rights in the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA), and it describes rights visitors from the United Kingdom and the European Union may have.
2. What we collect
Information you give us. Your email address, if you ask for the room database or our updates. Whatever you choose to include if you email us, such as your name and your message. We have no accounts, no comments and no forms beyond the email signup, and we take no payments on the Site.
Information collected automatically. Our website host keeps standard server logs when a page is requested: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the time. They are used for security and reliability, are not used to build profiles, and are not combined with anything you give us.
Cookies and trackers. The Site sets no cookies. There is no analytics software, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no session recording, and our fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page sends nothing to Google or anyone else. Because nothing is set, there is no cookie banner and nothing to opt out of.
3. Links, reviews and videos from other sites
Stay pages link to Google Maps, Tripadvisor, hotel booking sites and, in future, booking partners that pay us a commission. Nothing is loaded from those sites until you click. Once you leave the Site, that site's own privacy policy applies, and a booking partner may set its own cookie so that a booking can be credited to us. We do not receive your booking details, only a report that a commission is due.
Where a stay page embeds one of our videos, it will use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no YouTube cookie until you press play.
4. How we use it
To send the room database and the updates you asked for, to reply to you, to keep the Site secure, and to meet legal obligations. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we never use it for a purpose you would not expect from this list.
5. Email
We only email people who asked us to. Every email says who it is from, carries our postal address, and has a one-click unsubscribe link, and we honor an unsubscribe within 10 business days, as the federal CAN-SPAM Act requires. You can also unsubscribe by writing to hello@keycardtravel.com.
6. Who we share it with
Service providers that run the Site and our email for us, and process your information only to do that: our website host (Netlify), which receives and stores the room database signup form, and our email provider (Google Workspace). If we move the mailing list to a dedicated newsletter service, we will name it here before we do.
Legal and safety: where the law requires it, or to protect rights and safety. Business transfers: if the Site is sold or merged, under this same policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not disclose it to anyone for their own direct marketing, which is what California's Shine the Light law (Civil Code 1798.83) asks businesses to disclose.
7. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. The Site does not track visitors over time or across other websites, and no third party collects information about your browsing through it, so there is nothing for the signal to switch off and we do not change anything in response to it.
8. Your California privacy rights
If you live in California you may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to delete it, or to correct it, and you may not be treated differently for asking. We neither sell nor share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We do not currently meet the CCPA's size thresholds, and we honor these rights anyway.
Write to hello@keycardtravel.com from the email address the request is about, so we can confirm it is you. We reply within 45 days.
9. Visitors from outside the United States
The Site is run from the United States and your information is processed there. If you are in the UK or the EU, we rely on your consent to email you and on our legitimate interest in replying to messages you send. You may ask to access, correct, delete or restrict your information, withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing, and complain to your local data protection authority.
10. How long we keep it
Your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Emails you send us for as long as needed to deal with them. Server logs for the short period our host keeps them.
11. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS and our email accounts are protected with two-factor authentication. No system is completely secure, and email is not encrypted end to end, so please do not send us anything sensitive.
12. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it. For our own part, no child ever appears in our footage or photographs.
